Assorted Pilea (Pilea spp.)

Assorted Pilea includes a mix of easy, compact houseplants grown for their fresh foliage textures and modern look. These plants are great for adding variety to shelves, desks, and windowsills without taking up much space. Most pilea stay manageable and respond well to simple routines, making them a strong pick for newer plant owners and busy schedules. If you want a clean, contemporary houseplant that layers well with other indoor plants, pilea are a reliable choice.

Distinctive Features

Pilea are prized for their distinctive leaves, which can range from round and coin-like to finely textured or patterned depending on the variety. Many types grow in a neat, mounding form, while others trail gently and soften the edge of a container. The overall look is crisp and lightweight, which helps indoor displays feel brighter and more intentional. Because assorted selections vary, you get the fun of unique foliage while still staying within a similar, easy-care category.

Growing Conditions

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is best, and many varieties tolerate medium light with slower growth.
  • Soil: Use a well-drained indoor potting mix in a container with drainage holes.
  • Water: Water when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry, then let excess water drain fully.
  • Humidity: Average home humidity works, and moderate humidity supports fuller growth.
  • Temperature: Keep in warm indoor conditions and protect from cold drafts.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Use as a focal point on a desk or side table where the unique leaf shape and texture can be appreciated up close.
  • Houseplant Collections: Add variety and contrast among solid green plants to create a more layered look.
  • Shelves and Windowsills: Keep in bright, filtered light to maintain compact, tidy growth.
  • Mixed Containers: Pair with upright foliage plants to fill space and add texture around the base.
  • Small-Space Greenery: Use in apartments and offices where you want a compact plant with a clean silhouette.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Pinch or trim as needed to encourage branching and keep the plant full.
  • Watering: Avoid soggy soil, and do not let the pot sit in standing water.
  • Feeding: Feed monthly in spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots fill the pot, or refresh the top layer of soil to support steady growth.
  • Monitoring: Check occasionally for spider mites or mealybugs, especially in dry indoor air.

Why Choose Assorted Pilea?

  • Foliage Variety: Assorted selections give you different leaf shapes and textures while keeping care simple.
  • Compact Size: Most pilea stay manageable and fit easily in smaller indoor spaces.
  • Easy Routine: Thrives with bright, indirect light and a straightforward watering schedule.
  • Great for Styling: Adds a clean, modern texture that pairs well with almost any decor.
  • Mix-and-Match Friendly: Works well alongside other houseplants in grouped displays and mixed planters.

Assorted Pilea are an easy way to add texture and variety to your indoor plant lineup. Give them bright, indirect light, let the soil dry slightly between waterings, and trim occasionally to keep growth neat. With a simple routine, these compact plants stay attractive and make indoor spaces feel more finished.

Got it for my college class, it was a required text.
Format: Paperback
Got this book for one my college class, no joke this was a required text. But overall it was an okay read, only reason why I gave it a 4 out 5 is because I prefer to read books for enjoyment and interest, reading a book for class takes that away.

Superman, a Dark Knight in the Skies
Format: Paperback
This is a beautiful tome of the first issues of Superman under Action Comics and the first Superman issue. Although providing the same texts of Chronicles, I find this series better because they have more issues per volume. In spite of its 390 pages, these volumes are light and easy to handle. Albeit the simplicity and innocence of these stories, Superman impresses me as a "dark knight" of the skies given his toughness with the bad guys. In these stories, he's got no compassion for criminals. He also defends the working class, stand for fair treatment of workers, and even takes an "isolationist" stance which was popular in the days before WWII. Another surprise for the first-time reader of this period is that Superman can't fly; he can only leap over tall buildings. There is no Krypton and no Daily Planet. The city of Metropolis is introduced for the first time in the second half of this tome. And Lois Lane is often relegated to unimportant journalistic tasks, while she has greater ambitions. It is a great experience to read these old stories in a beautifully designed tome. I hope they reproduce the others quickly.

This is Superman like you DON'T remember him!
Format: Kindle
I've been a fan for as long as I've been able to tie a bath towel around my neck, so diving into these early comics has been a real joy! The character was quite different in the beginning so if you're not familiar with Golden Age Superman this might be quite the eye opener. Here in these early comics, Supes certainly isn't the Big Blue Boy Scout you knew and loved in the Silver Age and beyond; early on, he's more like the Well-Meaning Big Blue Bully/Borderline Sociopath. Sort of like early Golden Age Batman: bad guys die, Superman (or Batman) kind of shrugs and thinks, "Well, they got what they deserved..." His relationship with Lois is a bit more desperate-seeming in a few places as well. In fact, he's almost a bit stalker-ish in his pursuit/attitude toward Miss Lane. You can thank DC editor Whitney Ellsworth and a few others for softening the rough edges and turning The Man of Steel into the virtuous character we have today.

This is my Superman
Format: Paperback
Before super villains came along, Superman fought corrupt businessmen and world leaders. In this volume, you get stories like Superman trapping a wealthy mine owner in his own mine so he can feel what it’s like for his exploited workers (as I type that, I thought of a great parallel that might get this review removed haha), forced warring leaders to settle their differences in person, and destroyed a ghetto to get the government to pay to give the poor people modern housing (today our government would just leave them homeless but I digress) At some point in this volume, you get the first supervillain and it gradually goes away from this great Superman at that point but this Superman is my Superman, rough scripting/art and all
